Another Year Another Adventure

As 2013 draws to a close I think back to last New Years eve and the resolutions I made.
Does anyone every really stick to all their New Years resolutions? I think not. All we can do is try and be glad when we achieve at least some of the things we promised to do. Like most, I didn't achieve all I set out to but I'm pretty happy with my efforts in 2013.

2014 is about to open it's doors to new adventures, friends and hopefully success in our attempts to be better human beings.

I want to thank all my very supportive customers who have come back time and time again to buy more jewellery and who have passed on my website to friends and family. You are awesome! It means everything  to me to be able to work from home and create wonderful things.

This year I will be concentrating more on my website and putting some exclusive one off pieces on it that can't be bought anywhere else. Stay tuned! Make sure you put my website into your favorites so you can come see whats new.

So a BIG..... HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!! everyone. May 2014 bring you Joy, Laughter and Good Health.

Christmas Season Shopping

The past few weeks a a blur. Don't ask me what I've been doing on a daily basis, all I can reply would be working. No fun with friends, family, no frolicking or strolling along the white sand on a blissful sunny day, no smelling the roses (which by the way are blooming beautifully in my garden!).
Don't get me wrong, I love what I do, I really really love it, maybe too much. I don't know when to stop is the problem.
I never seem to catch up let alone get ahead. Every year I promise myself and my family I will be prepared for the Christmas rush. Get plenty of jewellery made ahead of time so I can relax and enjoy the silly season.
You know, catch up with friends, have drinks with colleagues and participate in the crazy gift shopping extravaganza.
Well here I am again, working day and night ( I promised myself I would stop working nights but that seems impossible for my obsessive brain ). It's not about the financial reward. The thing I've worked out is it's about the fact people want to buy what I make, its an emotional reward I'm hooked on.
Maybe it's to do with my childhood, maybe other things, but I have to create something, anything to keep me happy.Well I guess I could have other vices which could be destructive rather than creative. At least what I do gives joy and happiness to people and that keeps me doing what I am doing.
Apologies to my family and friends. I do love you all very much. Only another few weeks and I'm all yours.

Contemporary Edge Jewellery

After years of making jewellery designed from sourced and altered beads, I'm exploring my own need to make my mark on this world. Who knows where this will take me, but there is no doubt that my ceramic history, and my love of all things ancient, will shine through. It will be a long journey, and not something that is going to happen overnight, but it has started.

Love Blue Winter Skies

Well here we are in the middle of winter looking for something to do on our weekends whilst rugged up in our winter woolly scarves and coats, and looking for the best hot chocolate in town to keep us warm.

If you haven't been to Warrandyte, it's worth the trip.
Take a casual walk along the tree lined river and stop at Coco Moon for delicious hot chocolate or coffee and great food. Stonehouse Gallery, opposite the Pub, has food for the soul with wonderful quality hand made gifts and art. They have a new exhibition every month, check out the link to see whats on.
Art by Sue Gilford on until the 31st July

We All Know Greens Are Good For You

"Eat your greens!", we have all heard that from our mothers at one time or another as we sat at the table with a mountain of green "stuff" pilled on our plates. Some definitely looked more appetizing than others.
I actually LOVE brussel sprouts. I can hear the Yuks now from you, but my mother served them fried with bacon and served in a delicious light white sauce, clever mum ( and no, we were not fat in those days). So, not all greens are equal are they?
As I was fossicking yesterday through my semi precious stone stash, looking for inspiration, I found some beautiful irregular faceted subtle Green Amethyst that I had quite forgotten about.
I had a light bulb moment and went straight to my bench. It didn't take me long to decide what I would do with these beautiful subtle green stones. I decided to oxidize the silver to make the green pop, and added some 14K Gold Filled wire as a contrast.

Winter in Melbourne

Yes winter has arrived, it's 3 deg C this morning and as I look out of my office window a gorgeous mist envelopes my back yard and I can only see a skeleton  outline of the trees beyond. I'm about to jump in the car and head for the gym before I start my day in the studio.
Exercise is only something I have recently embraced, not through choice but necessity. Years of sitting at the jewellers bench have taken it's toll on my back, not that it was in great shape to start with. So, armed with my trusty towel to separate me from the delightful sweat of others and my water bottle, (just in case I work up a sweat), I head off daily to try and correct the problems of years of neglect. If it was not for the fact that it is working, I probably would not be so diligent.
The best part is I'm able to do more, make more jewellery and go for walks without my back aching.
So here is the result of my hard labor, both in the gym and at the bench.
A lovely handmade, from mostly recycled sterling silver and copper,  brooch I've named "Two Flowers".
Don't forget to visit my website, , if you would like to see more of the fruits of my labor.
